Product Description
The Voyagerfolders are, ounce for ounce, far stronger than 99% of our competitor¹s folders. And this is a fact, not an idle boast. Each knife features laser cut and hand fitted parts with a stiff spring and our incomparable Tri-Ad lock mechanism which is arguably the strongest, most reliable, low maintenance lock in the world. If you like serrations, you'll really appreciate our exclusive pattern. It features groups of very small, sharply pointed teeth separated by wide, shallow arcs so it will rip smoothly yet very aggressively through a wide variety of tough fibrous materials without snagging or hanging up. The Voyager Series also offers all the other latest refinements in lock-back construction including lightning quick, one-handed opening, state of the art mechanical fasteners, massively oversized pivot pins that are fully adjustable and properly hardened, and dual stainless steel pocket clips for ambidextrous carry and deployment. The Grivory handles feature 6061 heat treated aluminum liners for the utmost in strength and stiffness and are ergonomically designed to afford a wide array of grip options including the palm reinforced forward grip for which they are particularly well suited. Grivory is unparalleled as a handle material as it is considerably stronger than Zytel and, when deeply textured, offers a terrific non-slip grip. As an added bonus, it's impervious to moisture and won't crack, warp or shrink and remains remarkably resistant to abrasion or discoloration. As tools these lightweight, super sharp knives are appropriate in almost any environment from hunting and camping to hiking and general utility chores. They can also readily fill specialty functions such as a boat or river knife, chute knife or police/military and survival/rescue applications.

By Stephen H. Poor
My previous favorite was the CS Voyager Large Clip Point Plain Edge that was made in Japan. The older model was made with a different steel (VG-10 I think), and even though it was a little expensive, it was worth every penny! It had good ergonomics, was durable, and would cut with alacrity. It also held an edge beautifully. When I heard that CS was making the new knives in Taiwan and with a cheaper steel, I was worried that quality would suffer, but this new Voyager is even better than the old one.
It cuts just as well and holds an edge as long. It has even better ergonomics, although it is a beefier package when folded. It has a rougher texture on the frame, which helps with your grip, but I have noticed that it tends to abrade the pockets of my jeans when clipped there. The new knife has a larger thumb stud and is much easier to open and close than the old one, although even on the old one, opening and closing weren't difficult.
The new steel is AUS-8. CS planned to make this one with San Mai III laminated steel, but had trouble getting the performance they wanted. This knife is NOT San Mai III, despite some advertising you may see to the contrary. AUS-8 is cheaper than the old steel, but in this knife you'd never know it. It performs every bit as well as the old steel.
On the whole, this knife is one of the best values that CS has ever offered, and it is one of the best knife values you'll find anywhere. It outperforms almost all the other knives I own, and it costs about half as much as the old Voyager. Even if it cost the same, it would be a great value. If you'd like a $50 knife that performs like a $100 knife, look no further.

This is a pretty comprehensive review, so, it's not short. I promise it's worth reading, though.
Ergonomics: Fantastic! It melts into your hand. The g10 is extremely aggressive, which seems ultimately unnecessary given that the handle shape alone will keep your hand from slipping. Certainly, you could have your hands covered in oil and still keep a firm grip on this knife. The handle is shaped very well for gripping it even by the very end - I've found this very useful. It effectively gives me an extra 9 inches of reach, which has saved me from having to get a stepstool or ladder more than once.
Portability: It's not a light knife, but it's also not a small knife. For how beefy this thing is in person, the weight is admirably low. I take some issue with the pocket clip combined with the aforementioned aggressive scales - The clip came absolutely absurdly tight, and the handle is not smooth under the clip. The combination of the two made it very difficult to get the knife out of my pocket without giving myself a wedgie. I ultimately took the clip off and bent it slightly to loosen it.
Sidenote: There is a DIY fix for overly-aggressive handle scales. Put JB Weld on the handle and then machine it down to a smooth finish. Youtube user "Nutnfancy" has a good tutorial for that. I'm far too lazy to do it, though.
Deployment: Surprisingly easy! You can wrist-flick it open because the blade is so heavy, and even flick it open with the thumb stud. It locks up like a dream with no play whatsoever. It can even easily be closed with one hand with a little practice. I ended up removing the thumbstud (using a flathead screwdriver and a vise) and replaced it with a couple of small zip-ties, effectively giving it an "Emerson wave" feature.
Durability/edge retention:
AUS-8 is leaps and bounds beyond, say, 400 series stainless, but is far from perfect. I've had to remove a couple of rust spots on the blade, and, unsurprisingly, anything you use to remove rust spots also discolors and/or removes the stonewash finish. I don't live in an excessively humid climate, so it was a little frustrating to have rust spots pop up within a week of use. (Wiping it down daily and oiling it would prevent that, but I don't have time on account of being lazy.) The blade is THICK. You could hack down a small tree with this thing - also, the point is well-reinforced and just glides into things because of the full flat grind on the blade. It holds an edge very well, and is decently easy to sharpen, but it's not going to hold an edge like, say, VG-10 or S30V - not that one can really get a comparably-sized knife with those blade materials for the same price. The closest one could get is probably a Spyderco Endura4, which is notably smaller in every dimension and (currently) 30-50% more expensive.
Appearance:
This knife is kinda ugly, but it also seems wholly oriented towards being a tool. The stonewash finish is somewhat attractive (and reminiscent of galvanized sheet metal), but not so good-looking that you'll feel bad when you inevitably scuff it through use. I'm actually glad it's kinda ugly, because I probably would be more hesitant to use it if it was pretty.
I've been less impressed with this knife than I thought I would be, but it's still a five-star item for the price. If you want a large hard-use knife, this will not disappoint.

By P. Larry Creel
I really like this knife for every day carry. It has a very light weight for its size. I can attach it to my lounge around pants without it pulling them down. It has a superb lock system (no blade play in any direction when locked). I prefer it to any liner lock I have owned and I own and have owned some good ones (Spyderco Tenacious, Chris Reeve Sebenzza, etc.) I also like the blade shape. It has enough point to be useful and it is wide enough to cut like a larger knife. I also appreciate the fact that the edge is ground thinner than almost any folding knife I have owned (200+) factory or custom folders . I believe the heat treat of these knives made in Taiwan is better than when the Voyagers were made in Japan. Due to its light weight, it might not be as robust as some heavier folders, but I had rather have a lighter folder with a superb lock and a thin edge than a folding pry bar. I have spent a long time and a lot of money looking for a perfect every day carry folder that meets my criteria. This is the best folder I have found so far. GREAT JOB COLD STEEL.
