4Nice knife, but not for left-handed people
By T. Mead
This knife seems very well constructed, while not too heavy for its size. The scales (handle) have a nice grippy texture to them and the knife fits well in my hand. For reference I usually wear L or XL gloves. As others have noted Kershaw knives come very sharp from the factory and this was no exception.

My only complaint (and one I didn't weigh when rating this item) is that the knife is impossible for me to open left-handed. Kershaw has this listed as ambidextrous, and it does indeed have an opening lug on both sides of the blade. But, the scale on the "right" side of the knife has a deeper cut away than the "left" side. Because of that I can't get my thumb adequately on to the opening lug. I'm sure there a folks who won't have this problem, but I will have to remove the scales and grind them down before I'm able to properly use this knife.

3Nice knife, SpeedSafe awkward (on this model)
By TxForensics
I enjoy having a variety of different knives, from higher-end Bokers to a number of tactical knives from Spiderco, Benchmark, etc. I recently purchased a Zero Tolerance 0302 which I *really* love-- the SpeedSafe function on that knife is pretty amazing so I was looking for another SpeedSafe knife to carry with me daily.

The fit and finish of the Random Task II is quite good and it appears to be a well made knife with one (pretty serious) exception.

When you open the knife (which, by the way is difficult given the placement of the thumb posts and the ample blade retention provided by the SpeedSafe mechanism) it only opens about half way and then hangs-- making it more dangerous than a knife without the SpeedSafe at all. Imagine applying enough pressure to the posts with your thumb/forefinger to finally break the blade loose, then, as the SpeedSafe assists the blade to open, you whack the top or side of the knife with your now vulnerable thumb as the blade assist runs out of gas mid-travel to fully open. I no longer use the thumb post, I open it with two hands (which kind of defeats the purpose, right?) I've tried slightly loosening the blade tension, working in some graphite and even high-end lubricant-- no love.

So, as the rating says, "It's okay."

5Needed This!
By J. R. Hozendorf
I've been extremely impressed with Kershaw for about 3 years - I live & work at sea & this is the only Blade or manufacturer that holds up to the ocean. I do believe that Kershaw needs to re-examine their measurements though - this knife is close to the size of the Blur & I was actually hoping for a little better fit in the pocket....But still love it!
